Howard Fashion: Yardfest 2011

This year Howard University was titled the second most fashionable school in America by the Huffington Post, only second to NYU, but still above other fashion institutions. I believe we gained this titled by the creativity of our fashion. I assumed that with the high ranking this school received every student would be walking the Yard with looks fresh off the runways of Paris and Milan. I was mistaken, but not disappointed. We ARE the most fashionable school because we have a fashion of our own. Howard Fashion is a very interesting mix of exclusive thrift store finds, urban outfitter purchases, and a multitude of vintage pieces all tied into an Afro-Centric, color-filled pot.

Yardfest was a perfect display of Howard Fashion. The campus was enriched with culture and legacy simply through the wardrobe of the crowd on the yard. It was nothing short of inspiration. Prints! Fur! Socks! Color Blocking! It was ALL there! It was a beautiful work of art. Photographers were everywhere, and we filled the Tumblr Dashboards, fashion blogs, and Facebook Timelines for the better part of a good 2 weeks. Yardfest is definitely something to remember, (if you can) and if you missed out, next year, be here. Step up, and SHOW OUT!
